Educator Action Alert: Encourage your students to submit testimony in support of the Farm to School Grant bill

We encourage all educators and their students to submit testimony on the Farm to School Grant bill (H.686 in the House and and S.349 in the Senate) which is coming up for debate in the Massachusetts Legislature on November 23, 2021. If passed, the bill would offer grant money for public schools interested in creating farm to school programs. Testimony comes in many forms (it could be a drawing, a letter, or even a video) and should include stories about what farm to school looks like in your school and why it is important.

We created this slide deck (and video presentation) which you can use in class to explore the Farm to School bill, how a bill becomes a law, and why farm to school is so important. Legislators need to hear from farm to school practitioners, students, families and other advocates about how impactful farm to school programs can be.

Mass. Farm to School will be collecting testimony from students to submit to the Education Committee in advance of the November 23rd hearing on the farm to school grant program. Hard copies of student work can be sent to: Massachusetts Farm to School, PO Box 213, Beverly, MA 01915. Any digital testimony can be submitted to dena@massfarmtoschool.org
